Published by Walker on

The Industrial Revolution continues today. Modern society has been highly organized and inundated with sophisticated machines. But the quality of life in our modern society is mechanical, aggressive, tense polluted and unhealthy. We use our nerves and brains in the struggle to survive, not our muscles and bodies. For many people in industrial society the fight to survive is not primarily a struggle for sufficient bread to eat. Rather, we are fighting to survive emotionally and ideologically.

In general we live sedentary lives with excessive nervous tension and too little physical movement. Our bodies are in need of exercise and our minds are in need of peace and rest. Tai Chi provides a counterpoise to the agitation and sedentariness of modern society.
