On Being Natural- Practice is Learning Naturally

Published by Walker on

In saying , “Practice Tai Chi Chuan naturally,” the important word is “practice” because if we could be Natural without learning Tai Chi Chuan it would not be necessary, and would never have been developed. One of the purposes of Tai Chi Chuan is to try to free ourselves from habitual movements and thus become more in tune with the Natural Laws.

Usually when we use the word “naturally,” we mean the end result in a series of logical relationships of things. It is “natural” for example, that a person who overeats improper food will become sick; here “natural” means logical consequence. The nature of the Natural Law or Principle cannot be discussed at great length here. But it is helpful to call attention to what we can recognize as unnatural in our life habits, with the intention of suggesting that Tai Chi Chuan can help to correct what is unnatural and harmful to our total health.

Two factors are worth noting here. First, we are biologically limited. Second, there are mechanical laws that can describe any specific movement. These laws are in fact Natural Laws.

Level 1: Paraphrasing-

State in your own words the meaning of each sentence.

We must unlearn to be Natural. To learn naturally we must practice Tai Chi.  If we didn’t need to learn to be Natural we wouldn’t need Tai Chi Chuan. Tai Chi Chuan is Natural practice. Practice Tai Chi Chuan to free yourself from a life of programmed movement. Seek harmony with Natures Order.

When we use the word “Naturally” often we are referring to being reasonable. For instance when we eat too much “bad food” we get sick. This “natural” result is obvious. The heart of Natural Law or Principle is too complex for this book. However, we can begin to be kind to ourselves  by becoming aware of our daily habitual activity. Tai Chi Chuan can help you be kind to yourself by correcting what is unhealthy and harmful to your health.

There are two things to consider here. First we are physically limited. Second, every move you make (or don’t make) are directly related to the laws of Nature. These are Natural Laws.

Level move you 2: Explicating

  1. State the main point.
The habitual way we move around each day is not natural. We can learn to be Natural through practicing Tai Chi Chuan.
  2. In other words….
We can be free of the unnatural habits we have developed and be in harmony with the laws of Natures.
  3. For example…
When you practice Tai Chi, and are off balance, practice more to improve your life balance.
